The Cumbria Way is a long-distance walking route devised in the mid-1970s by local members of what was then known as the Ramblers’ Association. From Ulverston in the south of the county to Carlisle in the north, this 73-mile route passes right through the Lake District National Park, calling in at Coniston, Langdale, Borrowdale and Caldbeck along the way. Largely avoiding the high fells, it’s a relatively easy route, although walkers pass over the grassy summit of High Pike (2158ft/658m) on the day the route crosses the Northern Fells.

Most people complete the journey in about five days.
