The place to be
If you are visiting the Wasdale area in the Lake District, you can’t go wrong by stopping off at The Sawmill, a small family-run cafe and farm shop.
The Sawmill is situated in the heart of beautiful Wasdale. This area has been attracting visitors for the last 200 years when it was discovered as an ideal location for walking holidays. The building has been lovingly restored, maintaining its industrial charm, having been used as a sawmill since Victorian times, with the last owner running it until 1952. The water wheel is still in place; water runs under the shop and can be viewed through glass panels in the shop floor.
With all that, walking and outdoor activities, you can certainly build an appetite that the Sawmill will easily satisfy. Serving homemade breakfasts, lunches and cakes prepared by local people using fresh, local ingredients wherever possible. The farm shop sells a range of local produce, including meats, cheeses in the deli and gifts such as hand-made soaps and candles.

Best bits
The Sawmill is a great place to stop for lunch, exquisite sweet treats or a coffee. There is something for everyone with a play area for children, a kid’s menu, a selection of alcoholic beverages, and a great outside seating area on the banks of the River Irt. We highly recommend a trip to the Sawmill; you will not be disappointed.
The cafe and farm shop are open Monday-Sunday from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm and are closed on Tuesdays. For more information, click here.
