Scale Force

1 min read

Scale Force is the Lake District’s longest waterfall. The path leading up to it from Buttermere is rough underfoot, but the location alone is worth the effort – the slender ribbons of white water that make up the falls are hidden away in a dark, narrow gorge cutting deep into the fellside. Trees cling to the sheer rock walls on either side. You’ll need to crane your neck to get any sense of the immense height the water falls in just a short distance – or carefully clamber up the slippery boulders at the mouth of the ravine for a closer look.
