Honeysuckle Cottage & Whinfell Studio – Penrith
1 Bedroom Cottage, Two Bedroom Studio
Offering two different accommodation options, Honeysuckle Cottage and Whinfell Studio aren’t lodges in their own right but are independent accommodations in the heart of Penrith. Use either as a base for exploring the wonders of the Lake District, or for a city break – they are both perfect for exploring Penrith on foot. Set on the eastern border of the Lake District National Park, Penrith puts you easily in distance of a trip into the heart of the Lakes, whilst remaining accessible. Lovingly refurbished, these stylish and modern accommodations are the perfect retreat whether you stay in the deluxe studio (with one large double bed) or take a trip with friends or family, and hire Honeysuckle Cottage (with one double bedroom and one twin bedroom). Nearby Lowther Castle is a must for history buffs, and adults and kids alike will have a fabulous day at Rheged, where the cinema, play areas, restaurant, gallery, shops, and cafe provide the perfect respite on a rainy day.
3 Beck Head, Kirkby Lonsdale
4 Bedroom house
The charming town of Kirkby Lonsdale is a hubbub of thriving independent shops, cafes, and restaurants, as well as some charming historical features and spectacular countryside.
This elegantly refurbished Georgian townhouse in the heart of the town provides three double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, perfect for a family break away or a weekend away with friends. The private courtyard garden is easily accessible for enjoying a glass of wine al fresco, and the spacious sitting room and snug area are great spaces for relaxation and entertaining. Whilst the hot tub isn’t onsite, guests can enjoy complimentary access to the gym, spa, classes, and swimming facilities at nearby Kirkby Lonsdale Health Club.
Langtonbury – Appleby-in-Westmorland
1 Bedroom traditional caravan
This beautiful traditional caravan is the perfect off-grid retreat. With spectacular views of the surrounding countryside and mountains, the cheerfully hand-painted caravan offers the epitome of tranquillity and peace. However, it is only a mile from the centre of Appleby, 14km from Brough Castle, and 19km from Whinfell Forest – perfect day trips if you can rouse yourself from the snoozy calm of this serene spot. A seating area, dining area, and kitchenette provide small utilities (toaster, stovetop, and kitchenware), whilst an outdoor dining area allows you to make the most of the spectacular scenery. A generator provides power, and a foot pump gives you water. The outdoor hot tub provides the most idyllic spot from which to stargaze on a clear night. Worth noting is that, due to the restrictions of this beautiful traditional caravan, there is no space for a cot or additional bed.
The Lodges at Artlegarth – Ravenstonedale
Two- and three-bedroom lodges
These Lake District log cabins with hot tubs have the feel of rugged wooden cabins, but with every luxurious extra touch you could wish for. The lodges are the perfect Lake District retreat to relax and unwind, set within seven acres of landscaped land, with picnic benches, woodlands, a wildlife pond, and a children’s play area. Just a mile’s wander from the little village of Ravenstonedale (where you’ll find the gastronomic delights of the pub, The Black Swan), the lodges at Artlegarth combine perfect rural idyll with easy access to day trips and adventures. Ravenstonedale also offers golf and tennis facilities, as well as an art gallery and shop. Set in the moorland between Sedbergh and Kirkby Stephen, the luxurious lodges have been finished to the highest standards, and hot tubs on the covered deck outside afford views of the stars on clear nights. All of the lodges include a private hot tub and barbecue, as well as a welcome tray, linens and towels, and luxury toiletries to help you relax and enjoy your stay.
Shepherds Hut, Hannah’s Retreat – Bowness on Solway
1 Bed hut
Set only 400 metres wander from the beach, Hannah’s Retreat is a stunning spot. The village of Bowness on Solway, famous for being the start (or end, depending on your point of view) of Hadrian’s Wall, is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). On the shores of the Solway Coast, a haven for local bird life, you can wander the dunes taking in curlew, golden and grey plover, lapwings, and many more birds scattered across the salt marsh, sand dunes, shingle beds, and peat mosses. The village itself offers a pub, bistro, and tea room. With Carlisle within a half-hour’s drive, this is a great spot to compromise on a holiday replete with rural calm but also offering the buzz of the city. Choose from one of the four shepherd huts in the orchard, or opt for one of the luxurious 7 B&B rooms in the old farmhouse. The fully equipped gym is complimentary for guests, and the onsite bistro serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Each hut has its own picnic table, towels, supply of logs for the log burner, and private onsite parking, in addition to its own hot tub.
With awe-inspiring mountains, spectacular lakes, rolling hills, miles of coastlines, charming villages, and up-and-coming cities, the Lake District has something to offer for anyone. We hope you enjoy your Lake District holiday!
