Guide Books for Walking or Cycling Coast to Coast (St Bees - Robin Hood's Bay):-
An increasing range of Guide Books are now published for Coast to Coasting. At a minimum for your trip you are advised to arm yourself with at least one of these Guide books and appropriate maps. The Walk guides are generally pocket size and with the exception of the Wainwright Guide at soft backed.

Maps
By far the simplest way for navigating your way Coast to Coast by foot is to use the dedicated 'Strip Maps' in conjuction with your chosen Guide Book. These are put together to give an easy to follow guide for each day's walking. You'll find the path marked for you to easily pick out from all the other information presented on the map. The only time you may be glad of standard OS Landranger Maps is if you either deliberately or accidentally wonder significantly off-route! The drawback of going for individual OS Maps (apart from obviously having to plot your own route on them) is that you will actually need 8 of them in total.
OS used to produce their own Coast to Coast Strip Maps OLS 33&34, however nolonger do so. Harvey however have stepped into the breach with two excellent maps of their own covering West (St Bees to Keld) and East (Keld to Robin Hood's Bay). You will therefore need both the Maps if you are planning to cover the entire route
Off Road Cyclists are on the other hand stronly advised to equip themselves with a full set of OS Maps since dedicated strip maps do not currently exist. For on road cycling a detailed road atlas may suffice if you do not want to invest in a set of OS Maps.
